Information for Parents/Guardians

EPINEPHRINE INFORMATIONEpinephrine administration is part of the Center ISD emergency health treatment procedure if anaphylaxis is suspected.

Anaphylaxis  is a potentially severe or life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur very quickly, as fast as within a couple of minutes of exposure to an allergen.

It can be triggered by an allergy to a particular food (peanuts or shellfish , for example), biting or stinging insects, medication, latex or a variety of other allergic triggers.

Center ISD campuses will now have the medication Epinephrine and Epinephrine Jr. on each campus to administer in case of a life-threatening anaphylactic emergency during the time students are in the building. Emergency services will be called if the medication is administered , however this allows a faster initial response by trained staff.

Center ISD School Board Policy allows the District to have unassigned epinephrine on hand. The Epinephrine Coordinator is the RN Coordinator.

Students with KNOWN life threatening allergies are encouraged to bring prescribed EPI pen to school and have an Emergency Action Plan on file with the campus nurse. See the Printable Documents section below for all Documents available related to students with Life Threatening Allergies.
